What are Telephony Services?
This following section includes information about how to connect various telephony services to Cloudonix. If your desired provider isn't listed, it doesn't mean it isn't supported - it only means that we didn't test it or no one used it yet. In such a case, email support@cloudonix.io with a topic of New Telephony Provider Request - and our team will do its best to create an integration guide for it.
What is a telephony provider?
Paraphrased from Wikipedia:
A telephony provider (or Internet Telephony Service Provider - ITSP) offers digital
telecommunications services based on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) that are
provisioned via the Internet.
ITSPs use a variety of signaling and multimedia protocols, including the Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP), the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), Megaco, and
the H.323 protocol. H.323 is one of the earliest VoIP protocols, but its use is
declining and it is rarely used for consumer products.
Cloudonix, supports the SIP signaling protocol—which can be interconnected with any modern telephony provider.
Is Skype™ a provider?
Not exactly. While Skype provides consumer grade services to Skype users, it doesn't provide telephony services in the sense that Cloudonix, or other communications systems, require. In the same sense, services such as Whatsapp™, Facebook™, Telegram™ and the sort can't be connected to Cloudonix.
While support for Whatsapp voice is available to consumers, getting it to work at the carrier level is far more challenging. We are currently investigating the potential, however, there is currently no specific due date for this feature capability.
